California continues to be the progressive experiment no one asked for. A San Franciso Bay area kindergarten has one the lowest test scores in the state after the school implemented a neo-Marxist curriculum.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the school spent $250,000 in federal funding on a for-profit program called “Woke Kindergarten” to help their struggling students. However, two years into the program, the students at Glassbrook Elementary are doing worse than they were before. A report showed a 4% drop in both reading and math skills, which means that less than 12% of students can read at their grade level and under 4% are proficient in math.
The superintendent of Hayward Unified School District defended the choice by saying the program wasn’t meant to boost attendance, not test scores. He said attendance has gone up by 20%. But he admitted that spending a quarter of a million dollars was more than what he wanted to pay.
But it’s not just a financial cost. The school is willingly setting these kids even further behind than they were before. Glassbrook has been one of the lowest-performing schools on the state’s Comprehensive School Improvement list. It is now at the very bottom of that list.
