SpaceX makes history with private spacewalk

SpaceX completed its first spacewalk yesterday, a private affair that featured tech billionaire Jared Isaacman.

Isaacman partnered with the private space company to test their new spacesuits, with SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis and three others accompanying him on the journey. The group’s time in space was quick, lasting less than two hours. For NASA, a trip to the International Space Station usually takes seven to eight hours.

But the commercial trip still left Isaacman in awe of our blue planet. He said, “Back at home, we all have a lot of work to do. But from here, it sure looks like a perfect world.”

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson celebrated the first-of-its-kind private space journey saying, “Today’s success represents a giant leap forward for the commercial space industry.”
