In sports, week 10 of the NFL season ended with an upset in the NFC West, while Major League Baseball announced its winners of the 2021 AL and NL Rookies of the Year.

The San Francisco 49ers notched their first win against a team with a winning record this season as they beat the LA Rams in definitive fashion, 31-10 on Monday Night Football. 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw touchdown passes to George Kittle and Deebo Samuel, and defensive back Jimmie Ward returned an interception for a touchdown as San Francisco cruised to their first home win in over a year. The pick-6 was Ward’s second interception in the first quarter.

The Rams drew significant media attention this past week as they signed fiery wideout Odell Beckham Jr., adding to an already talented offensive roster. Many saw this as a “win now” move, but the team did not capitalize on their new offensive weaponry.

The 49ers kept their playoff hopes alive as they move to 4-5, while the Rams drop to 7-3 with the loss. Los Angeles also failed to to take advantage of a golden opportunity to gain ground on the division-leading Arizona Cardinals, who were soundly defeated Sunday by the Carolina Panthers to drop to 8-2.

In baseball news, the first postseason awards were handed out Monday with Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena taking home the AL Rookie of the Year award and Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India being given the NL honor. Manager of the Year, the next award on the docket, will be announced tonight.
