Sunday was a busy day in the world of sports, with an MLB World Series elimination game as well as exciting NFL week 8 action.

The Houston Astros staved off elimination by defeating the Atlanta Braves 9-5 on Sunday night, preventing the Braves from winning a championship in front of their home crowd.

Things didn’t look good for Houston early when Atlanta center fielder Adam Duvall hit a grand-slam in the first inning giving the Braves a four-run early lead. However, the Astros were able to drive in two runs in both the second and third innings to tie things up. After Freddie Freeman put the Braves on top again with a homerun in the bottom half of the 3rd, Houston plated three more runs in the 5th inning to put them up for good. The series now heads back to Houston for the final two games.

Historically speaking, the Braves have the upper hand to win it all, as teams up 3-2 have won the series 69% of the time.

The NFL also had it’s fair share of noteworthy performances this weekend as it surpassed the half-way mark of the season. The Tennessee Titans moved to 6-2 after a roller-coaster finish against the Indianapolis Colts. The Titans clawed back from an early 14-0 deficit and took a 7-point lead with less than 2 minutes left after a pick-6 from rookie Elijah Molden.

The Colts, however, drove down the field quickly to tie things up on a Jonathan Stewart touchdown run with :22 seconds remaining in regulation and send the game to overtime. Colts QB Carson Wentz threw another pick in overtime that led to a Titan 44-yard field goal to give Tennessee the win.

In other exciting games from the weekend, two QBs led their teams to wins in their first start under center. Mike White led the Jets to a comeback victory over the Bengals for only their second win of the season. White threw for 405 yards and 3 touchdowns while setting the record for most completions in a player’s first start (37).

In the Sunday night game Cooper Rush started in place of injured QB Dak Prescott to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 20-16 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Rush threw for 325 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 5-yard TD pass to Amari Cooper with less than a minute left in the game to secure the win for the Cowboys.
