Surgeons successfully transplant pig kidney into human host with no immediate rejection for first time

*Note: during the broadcast, we mistakenly said that the researchers transplanted a genetically-altered pig’s liver into a human host. The real xenotransplantation procedure involved a genetically-altered pig’s kidney, which was a successful operation.

The kidney used in the transplant was altered to remove a certain sugar molecule which was theorized to trigger an immediate rejection in the host’s body.
