As the migrant crisis continues, new data from the Department of Homeland Security shows a growing number of potential terrorists are trying to enter the country.
The department nis now saying an estimated 160 people on the terror watch list were encountered at American borders this year. That’s roughly 60 more than last year with more than three months remaining in 2023.
DHS is warning “terrorists and criminal actors may exploit the elevated” migration levels, although the department notes some of these people might not be engaging in terrorism themselves and could be family members or other associates of known terrorists.
Regardless, the U.S. has seen a sharp uptick in these encounters during the Biden administration. By way of comparison, under Trump, terror encounters were consistently in the single digits.
