TikTok files lawsuit against US government

TikTok is suing the US government for forcing the company to part with its Chinese owner.

A bill was passed last month that stipulated the app must be sold to a US owner or be banned from the country’s marketplace. In the lawsuit, which was filed yesterday in Washington, D.C., the plaintiff argues that the bill is unconstitutional and violates free speech protections.

However, US officials and lawmakers cite national security concerns as the reason for the app’s potential restriction.

The social media app may be buying some time with the lawsuit, as it will slow the process of banning or selling the app.
