One of the largest pastors conferences in the United States will meet for the final time this coming April, according to an announcement earlier this week.

Together for the Gospel (T4G) is a pastors conference created by several high profile Reformed pastors, including Mark Dever, pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and Ligon Duncan, chancellor of Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. These two men, along with Albert Mohler and C.J. Mahaney, began the biannual conference in 2006 as a way for pastors to come together cross-denominationally and be encouraged for faithful and fruitful ministry. Duncan and Dever made an announcement video on YouTube earlier this week that revealed the 2022 gathering will be last Together for the Gospel conference.

After fruitful gatherings in the early years that saw likes of speakers such as R.C. Sproul and John MacArthur, the conference has unfortunately seen its share of controversy in recent years.

C.J. Mahaney did not partake in 2014 in the wake of an unfortunate sexual abuse coverup in his church network, Sovereign Grace Church. He returned in 2016, but was later removed permanently and publicly renounced by some of the other leadership members for a continued mishandling of the abuse coverup.

In 2018, several speakers spoke on racial justice issues in a way that angered many conservatives, who felt these speakers showed too much support for critical race theory in the church. Attendees were forced to meet virtually for T4G 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

In the fall of 2021, Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, announced that he will not partake in the 2022 conference because his current ministry duties prevent him from participating.

The theme of T4G 2022 is “Last Word.” In addition to Duncan and Dever, some other high profile speakers at the conference include David Platt, Kevin DeYoung, and John Piper.
