Top House members briefed on ‘serious national security threat’

Top House members are being briefed today on a national security threat following an alarming press release from House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner (R-Ohio).

Yesterday, Turner said his committee discovered an “urgent matter with regard to a destabilizing foreign military capability” and called on President Biden to declassify all information relating to the threat.

Sources tell ABC News the information concerns a Russian plan to destroy Western satellite networks with a nuclear weapon. The New York Times says the weapon is still in development and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is urging the public to remain calm. The speaker says he’s been aware of the threat for quite some time.

Meanwhile, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said he scheduled a briefing on the issue earlier this week and was surprised by Turner’s public response.
