Trump attacks Gov. Brian Kemp at Georgia rally

It looks like the former president’s calls for unity inside the Republican Party have come to a screeching halt.

Speaking at a rally in Atlanta on Saturday, Trump launched a blistering attack against Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger – both of whom Trump’s long accused of failing to prevent voter fraud in the 2020 election.

Trump’s attacks became more personal when he turned his ire on Kemp’s wife, who is refusing to endorse him this election cycle.

Earlier in the day, Trump posted a similar statement on Truth Social, prompting a reply from the Governor. Kemp said, “My focus is on winning this November and saving our country from Kamala Harris and the Democrats – not engaging in petty personal insults, attacking fellow Republicans, or dwelling on the past.” He added, “You should do the same, Mr. President, and leave my family out of it.”

In 2022, Raffensperger and Kemp became an odd mixture of both hated and celebrated by the left and its media surrogates. Since both men were conservative, and in Kemp’s case running against progressive darling Stacey Abrams, they were met with the normal resistance.

However, when Kemp and Raffensperger were reelected after publicly balking at Trump and being labeled one of his in-party rivals, left-leaning outlets hailed them as having found the magic formula for succeeding as a conservative without the express backing of Trump.  At the time, CNN touted Kemp as having created the “blueprint” for taking on Trump.
