Tonight could be a turning point in the presidential election as Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump square off in Philadelphia for their first and possibly only debate.
Harris has a lot at stake as she has largely shied away from unscripted events, making tonight one of the few times she’ll have to defend her record on the spot.
According to insiders, Trump’s game plan is to tie Harris to Joe Biden’s unpopularity while highlighting her history of promoting left-wing policy. GOP Strategist Tricia McLaughlin says Trump has the advantage on policy, but warns that things could go off the rails if Harris gets under his skin.
Reports suggest Harris plans to do just that by bringing up Trump’s various legal troubles. According to ABC News, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) has been preparing Trump for these attacks by “firing” questions at Trump about some of the more challenging issues, including his federal indictments on election interference and retaining classified documents.
