Trump hush money sentencing date delayed

Former President Donald Trump’s sentencing for his hush money case was pushed back to account for a future challenge.

Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan issued an order on Tuesday that moved Trump’s sentencing from July 11 to Sept. 18. The order was issued after Trump’s legal team requested an extension to challenge the conviction.

It also comes amid Monday’s Supreme Court ruling, which gave former presidents “presumptive immunity” for all official acts in office. Trump’s lawyers now have until July 10 to file a motion on the hush money verdict. Prosecutors have until July 24 to file a response.

Judge Merchan said that he expects to rule on the matter by Sept. 6, and the sentencing will be conducted on Sept. 18 if needed.
