Trump lawyers look to overturn Manhattan conviction

Former President Donald Trump is seeking to overturn his hush money trial conviction with his newly earned immunity protections.

Donald Trump claimed victory over his January 6th trial yesterday after the Supreme Court ruled that former presidents have broad immunity from prosecution. Now, the former president’s lawyers are arguing that the same rule should apply to his hush money conviction.

But since Trump’s indictment predates when he was in office, his lawyers will likely argue that the evidence presented by Trump’s prosecutors came from when he was president.

It remains to be seen if Judge Juan Merchan will take up the motion. The deadline for post-trial motions has passed, so he may suggest Trump’s team bring the case as part of the appeals process.
