Trump survives another assassination attempt

Donald Trump survived a second assassination attempt yesterday, only two months after being shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested yesterday after pointing an AK-47 assault rifle at the former president at his Florida golf club in West Palm Beach. Trump said in a post he could hear Routh exchange fire with the Secret Service.

Police say Routh was surprisingly calm upon his arrest and was seen smiling as he was taken away.

Information is still emerging about the would-be assassin. According to the New York Post, Routh has a lengthy criminal record from North Carolina and has donated exclusively to Democrat candidates and causes since 2019.

He posed on X in April “DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose” – echoing comments from top Democrats about Trump being a threat to democracy.

The FBI launched an investigation yesterday. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says the state is also launching its own investigation as well.
