U.S. and Qatar halt $6 billion payment to Iran

The US is now taking steps to punish Iran,  which is backing Hamas.

Recent reports show that the US will not allow Iran access to the $6 billion that was part of a much-publicized and highly criticized prisoner exchange. The White House came under heat Saturday after the weekend attack on Israel as critics said the Biden administration indirectly funded terrorism.

Security spokesman John Kirby responded to the critiques. Now it seems Iran won’t be receiving a dime.

Punchbowl News reports that Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo told House Democrats behind closed doors that the $6 billion “isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken echoed these statements on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt Thursday, saying the US retains the right to freeze those funds.
