U.S. Government ignores threat of Chinese businesses buying American land

Businesses linked to the Chinese Communist Party continue buying American land unchecked by the U.S. government.

According to a new Heritage Foundation report, that threat is growing. Since 2010, Chinese firms have topped $100 billion spent in acquiring U.S. companies – and their land holdings. Purchases of agricultural land have also increased by 400% in that time, which is the only data tracked by the U.S. government.

This endangers American resources and food supply. The report warns that the Chinese firms have a special interest in land near U.S. bases, creating a threat to sensitive military transmissions.

More than 20 states have stepped in to create laws to prohibit or restrict foreign land ownership. But Heritage notes that federal lawmakers have still failed to create meaningful legislation to address the danger before it’s too late.
