U.S. recognizes opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez as Venezuela’s president-elect

Venezuela’s election continues to be mired in controversy.

The US is now recognizing opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez as Venezuela’s rightful president-elect, rejecting the self-proclaimed victory of communist dictator Nicolas Maduro. It comes as the opposition party has now obtained and released 80 percent of the tally sheets, which the State Department says shows an “overwhelming victory” for Gonzalez.

Maduro has responded saying, “The United States needs to keep its nose out of Venezuela.”
