Yesterday, three U.S. service members were killed and 34 more were wounded at a base in Jordan.
The casualties were the result of a drone attack carried out by Iran-backed groups in Iraq and Syria. President Joe Biden called for a moment of silence in honor of the servicemen.
Yesterday marked the first time American troops were killed in the Middle East since the war in Gaza began. Since the start of the war, Iranian proxies have targeted American forces more than 140 times. Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder says the U.S. will hold those responsible to account.
Many Republicans are now calling for a direct strike on Iran. South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said on X “Hit Iran now. Hit them hard.”
Retaliation at this point is unlikely as the White House says it doesn’t want to escalate the conflict.
