U.S. urges Israel to avoid escalation after pager strike

Following widespread pager explosions in Lebanon, the US has cautioned Israel against escalating tensions in the Middle East.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Israel’s Mossad carried out a major explosive device operation targeting thousands of Hezbollah members. Washington now says it didn’t know about Israel’s plan nor was it involved. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US is still gathering information about the event.

Blinken reiterated America’s commitment to advancing a ceasefire deal between Israel and its enemies, saying it would be especially beneficial for both Israel and southern Lebanon.
