Ukrainian military officer accused of coordinating Nord Stream sabotage

A high-ranking Ukrainian military officer is reportedly responsible for the attack on the Nord Stream pipeline back in September 2022.

The Washington Post and a German publication jointly investigated the explosion. According to inside information, Ukrainian officials ordered former special forces operative Roman Chervinsky to coordinate a team to set the explosives, a claim Chervinsky denies.

He’s currently jailed and on trial for abusing his power by trying to persuade a Russian pilot to defect, an effort that led to an attack on Ukrainian forces. But he claims the prosecution is over his past comments criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy has repeatedly denied any Ukrainian role in the sabotage. WaPo’s sources say Zelenskyy was purposely kept in the dark about the operation, which senior Ukrainian officials masterminded.
