Nine staff members of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) have been fired for their possible involvement in the October 7 attack against Israel.
The agency has long been speculated to house people associated with Hamas. Following an investigation from the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services, UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said there was enough evidence to discipline nine people.
But the briefing became contentious as reporters tried to get more details out of Haq regarding the investigation. Haq did not expound on what information led the UN to fire the nine staff members, and the press grew increasingly frustrated at other “non-answers” from the UN on how they will continue with these cases.
