U.S. Abrams tanks arrive in Ukraine as war of disinformation escalates

The first American-made Abrams tanks are arriving in Ukraine this week.

The Biden administration has pledged 31 Abrams tanks in total. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the arrival of the first round of tanks on the Telegram messaging app, saying, “Abrams are already in Ukraine and are being prepared to reinforce our brigades.”

This comes in the midst of Kyiv’s counteroffensive which is aimed at penetrating defenses in Russian-held territory in the south and east of the country.

The two sides of the conflict are also engaging in a war of disinformation.

Ukrainian forces claimed to have killed Russia’s Black Sea fleet commander, Admiral Viktor Sokolov, in a missile strike targeting a meeting of the Russian Navy’s leadership in Crimea. But then Russia’s state-controlled media aired images showing Sokolov attending a daily briefing with other senior defense officials.

It wasn’t immediately clear when those photos were taken.
