The US repatriated several North American citizens from northeast Syria, including Canadian minors.

The Department of State said that the largest-ever single repatriation effort from Syria included 11 adult US citizens and six Canadian minors. The department says there are about “30,000 individuals from more than 60 countries outside Syria remain in…displaced persons camps, the majority of whom are children.”

The US argues that “The only durable solution to the humanitarian and security crisis in the displaced persons camps and detention facilities in northeast Syria is for countries to repatriate, rehabilitate, reintegrate, and where appropriate, ensure accountability for wrongdoing.”

The statement added that the US “remains committed” to helping other countries with repatriating their citizens and finding solutions “for those who are unable to return to their communities or countries of origin.”
