Former Uvalde Police Chief Pete Arredondo has been charged with child endangerment.

Arredondo was in charge of the police response to the 2022 shooting at Robb Elementary School. Arredondo was heavily criticized for a delayed response, waiting over an hour to confront the shooter who killed 19 students and 2 teachers.

On Thursday, Arredondo was arrested and booked into the Uvalde County Jail on 10 counts of child endangerment. He and another responding officer were previously indicted by a grand jury. The indictment alleges that Arredondo failed to respond to the shooting in an appropriate manner.

This comes over a month after victims’ family members reached a $2 million settlement with the city.
