The White House is ramping up pressure to pass a border security bill as soon as possible, threatening to reduce border operations over a lack of funds while accusing Republicans of playing political games.
Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre told reporters yesterday that if a border bill isn’t passed soon Immigration and Customs Enforcement “will be forced to reduce operations because of budget shortfalls.”
Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens is voicing support for the stalled bill, saying the additional resources it provides are desperately needed.
But former Border Chief Mark Morgan says the bill comes with a catch. He says its asylum provisions will make existing problems permanent.
