The White House is sounding the alarm that this week could see another Iranian attack on Israel.
Iran has threatened to retaliate after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Washington shares Israeli concerns that the attack is highly likely and, according to National Security spokesman John Kirby, could happen soon.
U.S. intelligence officials who spoke to Axios suggested that Iran may strike before the ceasefire negotiations scheduled on Thursday, though Hamas says they will not participate in those talks. Lebanon’s Hezbollah has also vowed to respond to a July Israeli airstrike in Beirut that killed their top military advisor.
