WPATH doctors privately discussed devastation of transitioning kids before endorsing procedures

Doctors at the influential World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) privately acknowledged the potentially devastating effects of child sex change procedures before publishing guidelines declaring them to be “safe and effective.” This is among several disturbing revelations in videotaped discussions among WPATH doctors about “gender-affirming care” guidelines for children.

In one of the recordings obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF), a physician said that children should be apprised of the possibility that cross-sex hormone therapies can lead to infertility, adding that he will prescribe them anyway.

In another, a surgeon referred to a phalloplasty – the surgical construction of a penis formed with harvested vaginal tissue – as an “adventure” for children, despite acknowledging later that the procedure can “definitely” lead to “complications” like permanent bladder dysfunction and tissue necrosis.

In several clips, doctors also appeared to dismiss the potential negative consequences of gender transition medical interventions on children struggling with mental health issues. One physician said that he is careful when prescribing cross-sex hormones to his schizophrenic patients, joking that, if they are given too high a dosage, they can’t “keep the voices down.”

“The transgender cult is a horror story beyond anything fiction writers could pen. Yet, America’s youth are subjected to it with the wholesale approval of our nation’s medical community,” Daily Caller commentary and analysis writer Mary Rooke wrote in an article published on Wednesday.

“The tapes show that these doctors are not only aware of the disastrous consequences children suffer after receiving these procedures, but are workshopping ways to continue pushing these treatments despite the mounting evidence against them.”

WPATH is largely considered to be the world’s leading authority on transgender health. According to the Daily Caller, WPATH’s standards of care for gender dysphoric children are followed by pediatric hospitals around the world.

The organization released updated guidance on gender-changing procedures for children in September 2022, titled “Standards of Care for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse People, Version 8.” Included in the updates was a recommendation to lift the age restriction for gender transition surgeries set at 17 years or older in a previous iteration of the guidance.

The guidance recommends puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries to affirm the gender identities of children struggling with gender dysphoria. WPATH also “strongly recommend[ed] against any use of reparative or conversion therapy” in the document. The guidance was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in May 2023.

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said in written testimony provided to Congress in November 2022 that the Biden administration “supports” the new WPATH guidelines “and believes that all children and adults should be afforded life-saving, medically necessary care,” as reported by FISM News. He added that “[p]ayers, both public and private, should cover treatments which medical experts have determined to be medically necessary.”

WPATH’s guidelines are a cornerstone of the booming sex reassignment industry since they are frequently cited as requirements for insurance coverage by both tax-funded insurance plans and private insurance companies, the Daily Caller reported.

The release of the tapes sparked both shock and outrage on social media.

“[WPATH doctors] admit that these surgeries and drugs are experimental in nature, that they put mentally ill children on hormones, and that they have no idea about the effects these drugs will have on children’s fertility in adulthood, among many other jarring admissions,” the group Gays Against Groomers posed: on X.

“This is proof that ‘gender affirming care’ on minors is purely ideological and NOT based in science,” the post continued. “They are sterilizing and mutilating children for the cause of social justice.

Author J.K. Rowling, a frequent target of harassment and threats from the left for asserting that there are two genders, wrote, “Medics acknowledged children weren’t capable of giving informed consent but kept on operating and prescribing.” She urged her followers to “Read the WPATH files” published by “Environmental Progress.”

The publication includes direct quotes transcribed from hundreds of leaked internal communications among WPATH doctors and other staff members. Journalist Mia Hughs wrote in an executive summary of the files: “WPATH advocates for many arbitrary medical practices, including hormonal and surgical experimentation on minors and vulnerable adults. Its approach to medicine is consumer-driven and pseudoscientific, and its members appear to be engaged in political activism, not science.”

“The WPATH Files detail Frankenstein-like experiments ON MINORS and the mentally ill, all done with the SUPPORT of the medical community in the name of “science” & “gender affirming care.” This is some of the most disturbing material I have ever exposed.“ Conservative television, radio, and podcast host Glenn Beck tweeted

Hannah Barnes, associate editor at the New Statesman and author of “Time to Think: The Inside Story of the Collapse of Tavistock’s Gender Service for Children,” said that WPATH falsely positions itself as “an ‘interdisciplinary professional and educational organization devoted to transgender health” in an article published by The Guardian.

“Despite its grand title, WPATH is neither solely a professional body – a significant proportion of its membership are activists – nor does it represent the ‘world’ view on how to care for this group of people,” Barnes wrote, adding, “There is no global agreement on best practice.”

Transgenderism has exploded among America’s youth in recent years. As of 2022, nearly one in five people who identify as transgender in the U.S. were between the ages of  13-17, according to researchers at UCLA’s Williams Institute. According to the published findings, 1.4% of adolescents in this age group identify as transgender, compared to roughly 0.5% of all adults.

“The transgender cult is a horror story beyond anything fiction writers could pen,” Rooke said. “Yet, America’s youth are subjected to it with the wholesale approval of our nation’s medical community.”
