Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is promising to mobilize a half-million more troops in the war with Russia.
At a Kyiv press conference on Tuesday, President Zelenskyy said it was a “difficult year” but promised Ukrainian victory. He is planning to draft between 450,000 and 500,000 more men for the Ukrainian army. He also promised that Ukraine will produce 1 million drones in the coming year.
He admitted that Ukraine is relying on military aid to supply the artillery shells and weapons they need to keep fighting. However, he confidently reminded his audience that Europe and the U.S. are expected to send billions of dollars in aid soon.
U.S. aid to Ukraine is currently held up in Congress, as Republicans are demanding that it come with stricter immigration policies to manage the Mexican border crisis. Yesterday, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stressed the urgency of supplying aid to Ukraine.
